Disney Immaginarte
This collection of Artwork from the Accademia Disney in Milan Italy, arose from the desire to gather the many works created by The Walt Disney Company Italia artists as their contribution to prestigious art contests or as experimental projects in the field of traditional painting.
The collection includes works created by Disney Academy artists and is devoted to some of the best professionals who attended the Special Course of Pictorial Experimentation. Their final versions are extraordinary works of art giving a flavor of the artistic maturity reached by the authors.
Experimenting new pictorial and creative possibilities is the main mission of the Disney Academy.
From ancient to modern, from reality to imagination, a long demanding journey through the world of art that seven artists from Accademia Disney agreed to take, under the guide of an exceptional master, G.B. Carpi. That’s how Immaginarte, a new group devoted to pictorial research within the Accademia Disney, was created in 1997. For the first time Disney gave permission to a selected number of artists to use its characters in a totally innovative way, combining pictorial research and experimental techniques. Most of the works created are oil paintings.
The first task Immaginarte artists undertook was to study and research ancient art, selecting those works and pictorial movements where Disney characters could be best integrated with the right amount of irony.
The second task was to explore the artistic potentials of a still-to-be defined Disney style in painting that combines modern artistic trends with Disney expressive style.
The passionate work of the artists is also quite evident where it is easy to realize how the artists’ creative effort and painstaking research transformed even simple sketches in small works of art.
The master, Giovan Basttista Carpi is one of the greatest living Disney artists. Creator of many cartoon characters, including Paperinik, he also invented a new way to produce works of art. With the help of the Italian Disney Academy, the master selected seven of the best professionals and together with them he founded the Immaginarte group with the task to try a new way that could lead to the creation of a Disney art in its own right. The challenge is to include the Disney touch in such a different and remote world such as the world of ancient art. The results are period remakes and transpositions of art masterpieces.
